Back-end Web Developer

Working at Christine Galvin Design means doing what you love every day. Our development team eats, sleeps and breathes code. A back-end developer at Christine Galvin Design is responsible for taking a front-end developer's HTML and CSS and creating fully functional websites. The back-end developer may also assist with creating custom applications and developing new systems and processes for the Company or clients. A typical day at Christine Galvin Design could include working on the database of a custom application, putting together a design document for a new project or installing a CMS into a website. Workdays are filled with brainstorming sessions, research and writing clean code by hand. Unless it's Friday, of course. On Fridays we close at noon.

The Back-end Developer we're looking for has...

  • A solid understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns (specifically MVC)
  • The ability to write clean, standards-compliant PHP and Javascript code by hand
  • Critical thinking skills to solve complex scalability, platform and integration problems
  • The ability to develop and install custom CMS tools for specific clients
  • A familiarity with *nix systems
  • Good working knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Experience testing, debugging and writing unit tests
  • The curiosity to learn new paradigms and languages as needed
  • A passion for development to contribute to the overall knowledge and experience of our team

This is a full-time, onsite position located at our office in Hudson, Ohio. Relocation assistance may be provided to the ideal candidate. Freelancers need not apply. Web Development Internships

Christine Galvin Design, Inc. is looking for two development interns to work on a guided internal project. The internship will consist of 10-20 hours a week (the schedule is flexible and to be determined). The interns will work onsite at our office in Hudson, Ohio. This is a paid internship.

The Job

  • Working on an internal project that requires the interns to write clean, standards-compliant PHP and Javascript by hand
  • Following a Design Document closely and working in an efficient manner
  • Working with the Lead Developer and collaborating with other members of the Christine Galvin Design team

Note: both front-end and back-end developers will be considered for this position.

The Skills

  • PHP and Javascript by hand
  • Knowledge of JQuery and JQuery UI
  • Experience with MySQL databases
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming and design patterns (specifically MVC)
  • Familiarity with *nix systems
  • Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Passion for development

Christine Galvin Design is exclusively a Linux and Mac studio. The ideal intern is someone who loves programming and is active in the development community. This internship is open to anyone interested; a college degree is not required.
